| Dear Ginny,
I am so excited that you have decided to share your expertise on line. We are happy to write about our success because of you and your great ideas. Livvy has benefited so many times from the behavioral things I have learned from you. Your instructional stories and picture routines, as well as the great ways to use them, have saved not only us, but other parents I have loaned "my binder" to since Liv has "graduated" from using them. Now that she is older, we have just adapted the idea to lists and calendars. We are so grateful to you.
I am honored to sign on as a very satisfied parent and friend.
Kelly & Rich A. Ballwin, MO ------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Ginny:
I wanted to let you know how helpful the social stories have been for Mark, my explosive Kindergarten student. Mark is transitioning into the classroom without tears and tantrums, thanks to the social stories you wrote for him. He loves his "When I get to School" book, and so does his mom! She reads it to him in the hallway outside our classroom door and he knows what to expect, follows his 3 step routine and life is good! It is especially helpful that the pictures in his book match the pictures you gave me for the classroom's visual schedule. Mark and ALL the students use these to remind us of what comes next in our daily routine. We love it!
We have been using the "When I get angry" story with Mark as soon as we see any signs that he is getting frustrated or upset. Mark goes to his quiet place on the pillows in the corner and reads the story with an adult. The visuals really help him, and seeing his name in the story is a great help. This strategy has worked time after time - he never seems to tire of the story. What is amazing is that we had been going over those same three solutions with him verbally since the beginning of the school year, but he was not responding. Having his story and reading it in a quiet place really helps him cool down, focus, and move on with his little life! It helps us too! Thank you so much.
The other day we were at a large group time and someone was "bugging” him by sitting too close. I could tell Mark was getting agitated, but I was reading a story to the class, so I couldn't stop and interrupt the lesson. Instead, I invited him to go get his story from his book box. He did, and independently went to his "place" and cooled down. I finally have a tool that is working for all of us! You're a lifesaver! To Whom it may concern, Ginny Bass worked with my daughter, Molly Colleen Connelly from June of 2005 through January of 2007.
My daughter Molly has Autism, is non-verbal and has other Pervasive Developmental Disabilities. Ginny began working with Molly shortly after her graduation from Southview School in the St. Louis Special School District in June of 2005. The goal of Ginny’s engagement was to help to develop Molly’s independent living skills to enable Molly to enter an independent or semi-independent living situation.
Ginny has an extensive knowledge of Autism Spectrum, as well as many years of experience working with individuals with Autism as a teacher in the St. Louis Special School District. Throughout her time with Molly, Ginny used picturegrams, schedules and other visual supports to aid Molly’s development. Ginny also used one-on-one coaching and instruction in working with Molly.
Ginny’s tenacious efforts resulted in Molly’s entry into a supported living facility in Clarksville, Mo Ginny assisted with Molly’s transition to the new living arrangements both with specific training with Molly in her new environment as well as extensive training with the staff at the facility. Ginny’s efforts over this 19- month period were critical to Molly’s successful transition. I am happy to say that Molly is thriving in her new home. in November of 2006.
I heartily recommend and endorse Ginny Bass to anyone seeking assistance for someone with disabilities similar to those of my daughter. Ginny made a significant contribution not only to my daughter, but to my entire family. Respectfully,
Michael Connelly President |
